Are you a victim of redundancy?
Or about to be? Gives you a sickening feeling doesn’t it? – and I know that feeling all too well. I ought to – I’ve been in jobs that have been made redundant six times and believe me, it doesn’t get any easier just because you’ve been there before. Redundancy can generate many different emotions - all of them very strong - especially frustration, hurt and anger - is this the thanks you get for all the hard work and commitment you have given your employer - often over many years?
I also know redundancy always seems to hit at a bad time - when there’s other upheaval in your life. The first time I was told I was losing my job through redundancy, my divorce papers arrived on the same day, so I know about the real ups and downs of life!
The ‘Snake-Bite Syndrome’
Redundancy is like being bitten by a venomous snake. First there’s the initial shock - like the bite - when you get the news. Even if you’re expecting it, the reality of hearing the words is still a blow. Then the paralysis sets in as the delayed shock grinds deep into your thinking – just like the snake poison working its way round your body. You know what you should be doing – dust off your CV, renew your contacts, get networking and stay motivated. But while you know what to do, the paralysis stops you from taking action. And when you’ve got it bad, it’s almost like agoraphobia – you can’t go out of the front door or even pick up the 'phone.
You Don’t Have to be Helpless
I certainly knew what to do – I should do - I’m a qualified Careers Advisor and I’ve spent years helping people through exactly the same circumstances. But when it happened to me, I was as helpless as anyone else in the same situation - at least to start with.
Since then, I've applied the skills and techniques that have proved so successful in helping others, enabling me to recover from the ‘snake bite syndrome’ and relaunch my life.
Using these skills and techniques, I have developed a programme which could do the same for you.
